Academic Catalog Cover Design – 2024–2025 & 2025–2026
Custom illustration and layout design for Great Basin College’s official student catalog covers. Each year features a unique, in-house concept designed to reflect student growth, place-based identity, and evolving institutional themes. Used in both print and digital formats for enrollment, marketing, and outreach.
Role & Scope
Creative Director, Designer, Illustrator
Objective / Context
Every year, Great Basin College refreshes its student catalog cover across physical and digital formats. I’ve led this project for the past four years, creating original concepts that align with faculty and student values while standing apart visually from prior years’ designs.
Process Highlights
For the 2025–2026 cover, I wanted to reflect campus culture without relying on traditional “collage” design. Instead, I created a hand-illustrated rendering of the college’s iconic clock tower—bold and unmistakable—to anchor the design in a place students and faculty immediately recognize as home.
Closing / Learnings
These two covers are among my favorites, each capturing a distinct mood while highlighting both the community and the rural identity of Great Basin College.
Event Flyer Series – 2023–2025
A series of promotional event flyers created for student activities and institutional events at Great Basin College. Each piece was individually tailored to the event while maintaining a consistent visual language across color, shape, typography, and layout structure.
Role & Scope
Creative Lead, Designer, Illustrator
Objective / Context
These flyers were designed to serve a wide array of student and community-facing events—ranging from social gatherings to academic milestones—while reinforcing visual consistency across college communications. The goal was to create excitement and engagement while keeping GBC’s identity clear and recognizable.
Process Highlights
Though each event had unique needs, I established a loose grid system and recurring shape language - rectangles, sharp lines with important details having curved approachable angles to create cohesion across the entire series. This allowed for creative variation without sacrificing brand familiarity. I also balanced bold type with graphic elements to keep things feeling human and exciting.
Closing / Learnings
This project underscored the power of flexible systems: by focusing on shape and flow instead of strict templates, I was able to produce a large variety of designs that felt distinct but unmistakably part of the same family. It became a visual thread for students—something recognizable, even from a distance.
Enrollment Ad Campaign – 2024–2025
A suite of targeted digital and print advertisements designed to support student enrollment initiatives across Great Basin College. Built with platform-specific specs and tailored messaging, the series emphasized accessibility, place-based identity, and forward momentum.
Role & Scope
Creative Lead, Designer, Copywriter, Marketer
Objective / Context
Each semester, GBC runs a time-sensitive enrollment campaign aimed at new and returning students. My role was to design a set of paid ads (static and animated) optimized for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and local print. The goal: improve recognition, drive clicks, and support community enrollment.
Process Highlights
I developed a modular layout system with scalable components (headline blocks, visual anchors, CTA zones) that could adapt across formats and screen sizes. The design emphasized our brand and high desert palette through warm earth tones and forest greens and clear, action-oriented copy.
I also A/B tested slight variations in messaging and image treatment to hone in on what was most effective per demographic slice (e.g., non-traditional students, recent grads, etc.).
Closing / Learnings
These ads were highly successful, driving over 10 million impressions and over 350,000 clicks to our site in 4 months with a budget of under $15,000. I used the performance of these ads to standardize and templatize my ad creation process, while giving me room to A/B test new designs and improvements.
