Women’s History Month – Presidential Message

A cinematic social video produced to honor Women’s History Month, featuring a personal message from the president of Great Basin College. The goal was to elevate a standard institutional address into a visually resonant and meaningful tribute, using tone, pacing, and intentional composition to highlight the month’s significance.

Role & Scope

Creative Lead, Interviewer, Cinematographer, Editor, Colorist, Motion Graphics Designer

Objective / Context

While many institutional messages risk feeling impersonal, this piece was created to reflect the deeper intent behind Women’s History Month, celebrating the strength, contributions, and leadership of women across campus and beyond. I wanted the video to feel intentional, warm, and elevated, reinforcing the college’s values while giving space for reflection. This was part of a larger series which highlighted months such as Community College Month, as well.

Process Highlights

Directed and shot in a quiet, naturally lit setting to match the tone of the message

Used simple punch-in’s and little edits to preserve gravity and presence

Applied soft color grading and selective depth of field to create a sense of intimacy

Built motion simple graphics package with professional typography to frame the speech without overpowering it

Optimized the final cut for social platforms while maintaining emotional impact

Closing / Learnings

This piece served as a reminder that less can truly be more when the message matters. Instead of relying on elaborate effects or fast pacing, I focused on stillness, sincerity, and aesthetic cohesion. The result was a video that resonated deeply with staff, students, as well as the broader Nevadan community.

It remains one of the most emotionally resonant pieces I’ve produced for student recruitment and engagement.

Excellence Means – Campaign Short

A short-form video created as a competitive entry for a national grant program centered on the theme of “Excellence in Education.” The goal was to define institutional excellence through the lens of student support, community pride, and the everyday dedication that fuels Great Basin College. Blended cinematic drone footage, grounded visuals, and voiceover to deliver a compelling, high-impact narrative under tight deadlines.

Role & Scope

Creative Director, Writer, Cinematographer (Ground), Editor, Colorist, Motion Graphics Designer

Objective / Context

This campaign submission required a clear, inspiring answer to the question: “What does excellence mean to your institution?” My creative intent was to focus on the exciting programs and students who show up every day to build something bigger than themselves.

Process Highlights

Used existing aerial footage combined with additional camera footage across the Elko GBC campus to create a sense of scale and pride

Used exciting pacing and movement to showcase that education is not only impactful, but can also be a fun and rewarding environment.

Recorded original voiceover to unify the message and deliver it with a personal touch

Designed motion graphics to reinforce branding and institutional identity

Excellence often lives in the details—the steady hands, quiet work, and shared commitment. This piece taught me how to communicate that story powerfully in under a minute. It remains one of the cleanest distillations of the culture and care at the core of GBC’s mission.

Jewelry Making Program – Cinematic Feature

A short feature on GBC’s jewelry making program, highlighting the artistry, instruction, and care within this hands-on learning environment. Focused on tone, pacing, and natural visuals to showcase the value of GBC’s unique program offerings beyond traditional academics.

Role & Scope

Creative Director, Interviewer, Cinematographer, Editor, Colorist, Motion Graphics Designer, Sound Design

Objective / Context

The goal was to spotlight a lesser-known but beloved program at GBC. Rather than just show a class in action, I aimed to capture the emotional and sensory texture of learning something tactile, showing tools in motion, quiet focus, and student-instructor connection. This piece was used across social and web to support awareness, recruitment, and donor interest.

Process Highlights

Shot using natural light and handheld movement to echo the intimacy of the craft

Focused on framing and audio cues (metal on metal, soft conversation, tool handling) to immerse the viewer in the environment

Highlighted instructor voiceover to convey pride and purpose behind the program

Kept pacing unhurried to match the meditative feel of the subject matter

Closing / Learnings

This project reinforced the power of tone and pacing in conveying a program’s essence. It’s one of the most visually grounded pieces in my portfolio—and a reminder that beauty often lives in the quiet work.

The video needed to convey that this wasn’t just a golf tournament—it was a celebration of community support for higher education. My creative intent was to inject levity and energy into the piece while still communicating its impact and importance.

Process Highlights

Integrated short, engaging interview soundbites from college leadership and attendees

Designed animated text and motion graphics and effects to match the “Golf for Good” campaign branding which I had also designed and marketed earlier in the campaign.

Edited for pace and momentum, with upbeat music and quick cuts to keep attention

Created horizontal and vertical versions for social media optimization

Closing / Learnings

This project was a chance to merge branding with storytelling in a format that’s easy to watch and share.
